As the leading mobile auto electrician on Brisbane’s Southside, we see lots of electrical problems during our working week. The electrical problems we most often encounter, when performing mobile auto repairs in Brisbane, tend to concern the vehicle’s battery, alternator, starter and connectors, and a problem in any of one these areas can be very frustrating for drivers.
So when our mobile auto electrician turns up at a customer’s home to locate and repair an electrical problem, below are the steps we often use to locate and identify the problem.
Steps to locate the cause of an auto electrical problem
The first step that our mobile auto electrician will take to isolate the problem is usually to check the terminals of the battery and measure its charge. If this is all OK and the battery doesn’t need to be replaced during your mobile auto repairs, then the next step is to check the fuses, which can easily be replaced and are often the cause of problems with the lights or stereo. If the fuse burns out again quickly however, this often means that you have a bigger problem than just a bad fuse.
If there are no problems with the battery or fuses, we then check the alternator, and one way to confirm this is to hook the battery up to a voltmeter when the engine is running. A reading between 12.8 and 14.7 volts is fine, any lower and we need to look at the output from the alternator itself, as this could indicate that the alternator needs to be replaced. It’s not a big job to replace the alternator and if this is your problem, our mobile auto electrician can do this the same day and have you up and running again in no time at all.
If there are no problems with the battery, fuses or the alternator, then we will have to dig a little deeper to isolate the cause. For people who are mechanically minded, you can most probably get this far without needing mobile auto repairs in Brisbane, but if you haven’t fixed the problem by now, you will need an auto electrician to take over from here.
